Myanmar workers urged to complete nationality verification

BANGKOK, Nov 20 (TNA) – Nearly 530,000 Myanmar workers have not undergo nationality verification, the process is part of the registration of migrant workers in Thailand. The Ministry of Labour urges employers to have their Myanmar workers undergo the verification before the lenient period ends this year. Director-General of the Employment Department, Anurak Tosarat and U Win Shein, Myanmar’s director-general of the Labour Department on Monday visited a one stop service center for Myanmar labourers at The Square department store in Nonthaburi’s Bangyai district. The center offers comprehensive service such as visa issuance, health checkups, health insurances and work permits. The center is capable to provide service to 500 workers a day however, since the service began on Nov 15, as of Nov 18, only 215 Myanmar workers received the service here. The provincial employment office was ordered to inform employers and workers to finish the process for complete labour registration. Nationality verification centers are also available at Zeer Rangsit in Pathum Thani, Samut Sakon, Samut Prakarn, Chiang Rai, Tak, Ranong, Chiang Mai, Nakhon Sawan and Songkhla. So far, 623,794 Myanmar workers have been verified. (TNA)
