Value of e-commerce in Thailand to reach 5 trillion baht in 2021

NONTHABURI, Dec 4 (TNA) -- The Department of Business Development (DBD) projects that the value of electronic commerce in Thailand will reach 5 trillion baht in 2021. Kulanee Isdisai, director-general of the department, said her organisation worked out a strategic plan on Thai e-commerce and would implement it from 2017 to 2021. The plan sets the goal for Thailand to become an e-commerce hub that would help small and medium-sized enterprises and local communities increase their income. The strategic plan focuses on human development and e-commerce promotion and facilitation. The DBD will also establish e-Marketplace to promote the products of SMEs and community organisations. It will develop e-Logistic facilities to deliver products at the local level. In addition, the department will set up e-Portal to offer convenient services to operators. The department has registered and verified about 30,000 websites in the countries. It is improving the standard and marketing of online products and developing community-based shops. Ms Kulanee expected such attempts would generate the economic value of 57.6 billion baht yearly and strengthen local economies. Last year the value of Thai e-commerce stood at 2.5 trillion baht. She projects it would double to 5 trillion baht in 2021. (TNA)
