Govt pledges expeditious deal with crisis impacts

(KPL) Prime Minister has said the government pledged to further making more efforts in dealing with the effects from the global financial crisis properly and expeditiously.
In his opening speech at the 5th Lao Business Forum held yesterday Mr. Bouasone Bouphavanh also urged the local business people to further improve their production and service standards and increase their cooperation and participation in dealing the impacts of the crisis with the government for their mutual benefit and the national development.
In recent weeks, Deputy Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith said the world financial crisis was affecting six sectors of the country such as export, tourism, employment, investment, foreign official development assistance (ODA) and national revenues collection.
Due to the financial crisis, some foreign investment projects have begun job cuts and been suspended. These include Sepon Gold Copper project of OZ Minerals Limited in Savannakhet with dozens of workers retrenched, Nam Ngum II, Nam Ngiab I, Nam Theun I and Hongsa lignite power plant in Sayaboury.
Over 100 business people attended the meeting held by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the International Finance Cooperation.
