Airport in Nakhon Si Thammarat reopens
NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Dec 10 (TNA) -- The airport in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat resumes operations Sunday after flooding situation the South has improved, officials said.
After closing for three days due to severe flood over the runway, the airport was reopened and the first flight from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport carrying more than 160 passengers arrived there at 6am, officials said.
A total of 22 flights are scheduled to fly to Nakhon Si Thammarat province Sunday.
Although floods have receded in several southern provinces, at least two areas in Trang province, including the provincial seat, are still under floodwater as high as two metres due to water which has overflowed Trang River.
It is hoped that the situation in Trang would return to normal next week.
Meanwhile, Chayapol Thitisak, director-general of Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said a total of six southern provinces, including Pattani, Songkhla, Phatthalung, Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani are still devastated by flood.
Mr Chayapol said his office has coordinated with the army and related government agencies in distributing necessities to flood victims as well as opening water pumps to pump floodwater from affected areas. (TNA)
