BMA, police, partners join forces to maximise road safety
BANGKOK, Dec 22 (TNA) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) teams up with police and road safety networks to promote public safety during the New Year festival with campaigns for speed limits and crash helmets on loan, among other measures.
Deputy Bangkok governor Chinnatat Meesuk said the BMA planned road safety measures for the seven-day New Year festival period from Dec 28 to Jan 3. The measures concern people, roads, vehicles, tourist safety, water transport safety and disaster responses.
BMA officials will try seriously to solve main causes of traffic accidents namely speed limit violation, dangerous driving manners and drink-driving. Pol Lt Gen Chinnatat cited that the BMA would ask motorists to limit their speed at 30 kilometres per hour on small roads to follow an existing traffic rule for road safety. With low speeds, road accident victims would have high chances of survival, he said.
He said Bangkok is one of 50 cities joining the Partnership for Healthy Cities project of Bloomberg Philanthropies and the participation prompts the BMA and partners to seriously campaign for road safety during the New Year festival. (TNA)
