France announces its intention to bid for World Expo 2025

BANGKOK, Dec 23 (TNA) -- An official representative of the French Government announced at a press briefing that France intends to bid for the “World Expo 2025” with technology, science and creativity as its central focus for the event.
Mr Pascal Lamy, a former Director General of the World Trade Organisations (WTO) and the representative for the French World Expo Bidding Committee, announced France’s intention to bid for the World Expo 2025 at a press briefing held at the French Embassy in Thailand on Friday.
France’s event has been tagged “Expo France 2025” with the proposed event theme, “Sharing Our Knowledge, Caring For Our Planet”.
Mr Lamy stated that the event will utilise cutting edge technology and scientific knowledge. He also stated that France stands a good chance at being appointed the host for the World Expo again as it is one of the world’s most popular tourism destinations and would as such attract a large number of visitors to this event.
Mr Lamy had earlier met Ms Chutima Bunyapraphasara, Deputy Minister of Commerce, to discuss France’s intention to bid for this world renown exposition.
France has previously hosted the World Expo in 1885, 1867, 1878, 1889 and 1900.
Four countries are candidates to host World Expo 2025: France (Paris), Japan (Osaka), Russian (Ekaterinburg), and Azerbaijan (Baku). The 170 member states of the the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) will elect the host country at the 164th General Assembly in November 2018. (END)
