S. Korea's e-commerce sales jump in 2008
SEOUL, Feb. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's e-commerce sales jumped 22 percent in
2008, mainly on a spike in business-to-business (B2B) transactions, a government
report showed Wednesday.
Total on-line transactions amounted to 630 trillion won (US$415.5 billion) last
year, compared with 516.5 trillion won a year earlier, according to the report by
the National Statistical Office.
B2B online transactions surged 20.6 percent to 560.1 trillion won last year from
the previous year's 464.4 trillion won. They accounted for the largest portion of
yearly growth, the report showed.
Business-to-government deals also jumped 42 percent to 52.2 trillion won, while
business-to-customer transactions advanced 14 percent to 11.6 trillion won.
Meanwhile, on-line transactions totaled 166.3 trillion won during the fourth
quarter of last year, up 11 percent from the same period a year ago, according to
the report.
