Blood alcohol testing measure starts to cut New Year road accidents

BANGKOK, Dec 27 (TNA) - The Public Health Ministry and the police have adopted blood alcohol testing measure for all cases of road accidents for the New Year holiday period in a bid to cut the number of road accidents. Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn and Pol Maj Gen Ekkarak Limsangkart, commander of Special Branch Bureau 3 told the press conference about road accident reduction measures that blood alcohol testing has been applied to drivers, involved in road accidents apart from breath alcohol test. The budget of about one million baht is set aside for blood alcohol testing during seven days of the New Year holiday. Damage caused by driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor will not be covered by insurance. If the measure is proved effective during the New Year holiday, it will be permanently implemented in all road accident cases. (TNA)
