Name contest for newborn elephant at Ayutthaya kraal

AYUTTHAYA, Dec 28 (TNA) - The Ayutthaya Elephant Palace and Royal Kraal hold a naming contest, asking for name suggestions for the newborn elephant. A ceremony was conducted to bless the baby elephant after it was born yesterday through natural breeding to a 29-year-old female elephant, named Baitoey. It is the 70th elephant, born at the kraal, which runs the Thai elephant conservation and breeding center for over 20 years. Owner of the Ayutthaya kraal, Laithongrien Meephan said that mahouts select a few names for the newborn such as Fah Mai or Pee Mai (New Year). Public members can join voting for the baby elephant’s name on the kraal’s Facebook fanpage. The voting is opened for 15 days before the decision on the final name will be made. Five voters, who win the lucky draw, will receive 2,000 baht each. (TNA)
