Road safety centre opened during New Year holiday

BANGKOK, Dec 29 (TNA) – Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paojinda on Thursday opened the road safety center to reduce road accidents during the New Year holidays. The centre will operate from Dec 28, 2017 to Jan 3, 2018, targeting to reduce risks of road accidents by fully enforcing traffic regulations. Moreover, checkpoints have been set up on main and secondary roads to monitor dangerous driving. At the beginning of the holiday period, he said, officials will focus on outbound roads to the regions and in the middle of festival, they will look after minor roads connecting villages and tourist sites. At the end of the holiday period, road safety measures will be implemented along the inbound traffic on highways, heading to Bangkok. In addition, officials monitor accident prone locations such as U-turns and junctions and also prepare emergency medical services for New Year revellers. Motorists are asked for cooperation to refrain from drunk driving, speeding, drowsy driving or using mobile phones while driving for the safety of themselves and passengers. (TNA)
