Pracharat school admission begins for southern students

BANGKOK, Jan 4 (TNA) – Admission begins for poor students or those, affected by southern violence to enter Pracharat schools that offer free education, accommodation and meals for them. Secretary-General of the Basic Education Commission, Bunrak Yodpetch said Pracharat schools are set up for students, whose families earn less than 30,000 baht a year as well as orphans, who lost their parents in southern violence. One Pracharat primary school and one secondary school have been established in each of all 37 districts in Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and four districts of Songkhla. Admission is opened until January 31. The establishment of Pracharat schools is one if the Education ministry’s policies to look after underprivileged children in remote areas. All children, who meet the admission criteria, will be accepted with no limit in number regardless of school performance. The Pracharat school project costs the government’s budget of about 10,000 baht for one primary school student per year and 20,000 baht and 30,000 for secondary school and senior secondary school students respectively. After the admission opening yesterday, so far, 3,000 students have applied for the project. Besides, academic learning, life skills and occupational training under the guideline of the late King’s sufficiency economy philosophy will be offered to students, so they can earn a living in the future.
