Government holds activities to mark Children’s Day

BANGKOK, Jan 5 (TNA) - The Education Ministry will open its door for children to try sitting on the minister’s chair on the National Children’s Day while various activities will be held to inspire their learning. Education Minister, Teerakiat Jareonsettasin told a news conference on organising of 2018 National Children’s Day activities on January 13. The annual event is held on the second Saturday of January. This year’s theme is to teach children morals to be good and quality adults in the future. Activities will be held in four different zones including unity, morality, science and technology. Both state and private sectors from 20 agencies and organizations will open 233 booths such as card making for parents to express gratitude, an exhibition on honesty, bot scout activities to boost unity and a moral story telling contest. Children will take a tour to see the old building in the ministry compound, which is part of historic Chan Kasem palace, the royal residence of King Rama VI. Tutoring online service will be introduced to children, so they can learn by themselves at home with famous tutors, offering lessons and pre-tests for O-Net exams. Moreover, 3,000 copies of this year’s children book, called “Little Hero” will be handed out to participating children. The book’s content is about love to the nation, religion and the monarch, environment conservation, love for homeland and the elderly and how to value themselves. Meanwhile, on January 8, the prime minister will give honorary plaques to 785 young people, who create fame for the country at the Santi Maitree building in Government House. The event to mark National Children’s Day will be also at Government House on Jan 13 from 7 am to 5 pm. Prime Minister's motto for 2018 Children’s Day is “Ability to Think, to Understand, and to be Creative in Technology”. The premier would like Thai children to be aware that they are the nation’s invaluable resources, and should strive to acquire new knowledge and skills, and to use information technology in a constructive manner. They are urged to be socially responsible, and be grateful to parents, teachers, and benefactors, as well as to have public consciousness for peaceful coexistence with others in order to become quality and moral adults.
