Foreign Ministry confirms revoking Yingluck’s passport

BANGKOK, Jan 6 (TNA) -- Thailand’s Foreign Affairs Ministry has reaffirmed that it has revoked passports of ousted prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who is now reported living in London after fleeing a court verdict in her trial over a rice subsidy scheme. A spokeswoman of the ministry said her ministry had no idea what country’s passport is used by Ms Yingluck following the appearance of another photograph showing her standing with another woman in front of a major shopping mall in London. Presently, she said, the ministry has revoked every passport of ousted prime minister after an instruction was given by the Royal Thai Police Bureau. It is now the duty of Office of the Attorney General and police to find the current whereabouts of Ms Yingluck, she said, adding that the photo of Ms Yingluck in London, would not affect relations between Britain and Thailand. The supreme court has found Ms Yingluck guilty of negligence and sentenced her to five years in prison, a verdict delivered in absentia a month after she fled the country. Ms Yingluck, whose elected government was overthrown in 2014 by the army generals who still control the kingdom, had denied allegations relating to a mishandled and costly rice subsidy scheme. (TNA)
