Thai team wins international ice sculpture competition in China

BANGKOK, Jan 8 (TNA) – Thai vocational college students won the 2018 international ice sculpture competition in Harbin, China ,retaining the championship title for the second consecutive year. Three Thai teams of vocational students from the Ubon Ratchathani Vocational College, Surat Thani Vocational College and Sumut Prakan Technical College participated in the competition, held in the capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province from Jan 4-7. This year, about 55 teams joined the contest. The team of four students from Ubon Ratchathani Vocational College took the first place and also won the Best Technique Award for their work, called "Asha-Paksa- Matsha-Waree". The victory is the ninth consecutive year for Thailand. The winning sculpture features the combination of the mythical creatures from the Himmaphan forest, including horses, a bird, fish and water. The horse represents progress, perseverance and diligence for achievement. The bird depicts freedom of thought and action with wisdom to fly and reach the success. Fish is the symbol of prosperity and water features happiness and abundance, the center of all living things in the world. The first prize winning team will return to Thailand on Jan 9. Meanwhile, another two Thai teams took the second place together for the work, called “The Image of Dragon Turtle” of the team from the Sumut Prakan Technical College and "The Knowledge of Fighting Cock", created by the Surat Thani Vocational College.
