People should not panic about increase in diarrhea cases: doctor
BANGKOK, Jan 9 (TNA) – Thailand is likely to see increasing diarrhea cases in winter instead of summer due to changes in sanitary and public utility system, said a clinical virology expert.
Acute diarrhea came to public attention after an actress was infected with rotavirus and a message is shared on social media there is no medicine to cure the disease.
In response to this, Professor Dr Yong Phuworawan (MD), a clinical virology expert of the Department of Pediatrics, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Memorial Hospital said people should not be panic as the disease is common in winter season and it can be cured in 3-5 days without complication.
In Thailand, most diarrhea cases, caused by bacteria used to be reported in summer times and it is caused by bacteria. However, with better sanitary system, the number of diarrhea cases has dropped.
However, in winter, virus infection spread easily and rotavirus and norovirus are commonly cause diarrhea in winter the same as what occurs in western countries.
Rotavirus infections are found every year in Thailand and last year, most patients with rotavirus infections were recorded. (TNA)
