German MP receives honourary doctorate in Vietnam
Hanoi (VNA) - The Hanoi-based National Economics University (NEU) has awarded the title of honourary doctor to Jurgen Koppelin, member of the German Federal Parliament, for his contributions to Vietnam.
According to Professor Nguyen Van Nam, the NEU's principal, Jurgen Koppelin has
been long interested in Vietnam with numerous visits to the country.
He played an important role in German-funded projects in Vietnam , including a 85
million EUR subway project in Ho Chi Minh City , a 2 million EUR vocational
project in Hanoi , and several other projects in vocational training and
environment.
Jurgen Koppelin has had many articles on finance and banking published on the
Economics and Development Magazine of the NEU.
Before the formal ceremony, the German MP made a presentation on economic crisis
and recovery before hundreds of NEU students.
Born in 1945, Jurgen Koppelin did as a bank administrator and broadcast editor
before being elected as a member of the German Federal Parliament in 1990.
The NEU had previously presented the title of honourary doctor to five persons,
including Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Vice State President, and Cambodian Deputy
Prime Minister. It plans to give the honour to the Minister of Education, Science
and Technology of the Republic of Korea.-Enditem
