Thailand will do better in US human trafficking rankings: Minister
BANGKOK, Jan 12 (TNA) -- Thailand will send its complete report on human trafficking suppression to the United States within this month and expects the latter to give it a better ranking.
Social Development and Human Security Minister Anantaporn Kanchanarat said that a committee on prevention and suppression of human trafficking examined the report and would send it to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Jan 15. The report would then be submitted to the US within this month’s end.
Concerned officials would complete the final version of the report within Jan 14, Gen Anantaporn said.
He said the report includes detailed information about punishments on the government officials who support human trafficking, help for victims, efforts to prevent human trafficking, accelerated legal action on human trafficking cases and latest human trafficking situations in Thailand compared with those in 2016.
The minister said the latest report would be the best report ever from Thailand and he was confident that Thailand would be better positioned from the US Tier 2 Watch List. Another positive factor was good ties between the US and Thailand, he said.
The US will announce its Trafficking in Persons Report in March. (TNA)
