Committee formed to regulate airport food prices
BANGKOK, Jan 12 (TNA) -- A deputy transport minister has formed a committee to monitor the prices of foods and beverages at Don Mueang airport for consumer protection.
Pailin Chuchottaworn, the deputy minister, visited Don Mueang airport to inspect the prices of foods and beverages there.
He said that foods at the airport were available with a wide range of prices starting at 60 baht for food and 10 baht for drinking water which were acceptable.
He ordered Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) to erect signs to lead people to a canteen with affordable prices at the airport. He admitted that foods were expensive at some restaurants there.
AOT told him that airport food prices were at the same level of foods in department stores and operators had high costs because they had to open their restaurants around the clock.
However, he ordered AOT to form a committee to monitor the prices of airport foods to prevent unreasonable food prices. Mr Pailin assured that he would not let any official take a bribe and turn a blind eye on expensive foods at an airport. (TNA)
