282 cattle die of foot and mouth disease in Borikhamsay

(KPL) Two hundred and eighty two cattle died of foot and mouth disease in three districts in Borikhamsay province since the disease began outbreaking in December last year, said a local official.
Head of Livestock and Fisheries Extension Division, Agriculture and Forestry Service of Borikhamsay province, Mr. Nouman Souttavanh disclosed that last week.
The disease has been suffering three districts Pakkading, Paksan and Thaphabath in the province, which were also flooded in last August.
Pakkading is the hardest hit by the outbreak with over 220 cattle dying and other 442 cattle affected in 18 villages.
Paksan has 59 cattle dying and other 66 affected with the disease in 18 villages.Fortunately, Thaphabath just has two villages Nakhan and Laokha villages reported suffering from the foot and mouth disease.
Mr. Nouman said that the disease was not originated locally but it was brought by cattle imported from southern provinces.
At present, local authorities and veterinarians are making their great efforts in mitigating the outbreak of the disease and preventing it from spreading to other areas.
The removal of warm-blooded animals like goats, sheep and cattle into and from the province is banned and strictly inspected by concerned officials.
