Thai universities to produce more personnel in robotics, computer engineering
BANGKOK, Jan 30 (TNA) – Chulalongkorn University, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) will launch two bachelor programmes in robotics engineering and electrical and computer engineering this year to produce graduates for industries in need.
Due to shortage of graduates in these fields, two leading universities in collaboration with US’s Carnegie Mellon University will produce more graduates, specialized in new technology and innovation.
Students will earn degrees from both Chulalongkorn University and KMITL when they finish the dual degree programme in robotics engineering.
The four-year programme will focus on project based learning on robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) from the two leading universities, said Suchatvee Suwansawat, president of KMITL.
Those, who study in electrical and computer engineering programme will earn a degree from CMKL university, the joint institute between Carnegie Mellon University and KMITL.
Supan Tungjitkusolmun, President of CMKL said the electrical and computer engineering will produce graduates with expertise in world-class technology to meet the country’s demand in development of AI, cyber security and smart city.
The first programme offers admission to 40 students and the latter has seats for 30 students. Both programmes apply the engineering curriculum of Carnegie Mellon University and the drafted curriculum is being revised and will be approved by March.
Thailand produces about 40-50 robotic engineers annually and a few university have such programmes. The number of graduates does not meet the demand for targeted industries. (TNA)
