Super Blue Blood Moon impressed viewers

BANGKOK, Feb 1 (TNA) -- Thai people and foreign tourists witnessed the Super Blue Blood Moon on the night of Jan 31. The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand set up about 10 telescopes in front of the Central Festival shopping centre in downtown Chiang Mai for general people to see the total eclipse of the full and super moon. The one-hour phenomenon was seen with bare eyes but those who wanted to have much better views through the telescopes had to wait on long queues. Many people used their mobile phones to take pictures of the phenomenon. In Phrachuap Khiri Khan province, people in Ban Ruam Thai village of Kui Buri district witnessed the Super Blue Blood Moon that happened once in every 150 years. Many people made loud noises by lighting firecrackers and hitting metal objects with an old belief to prevent bad luck and restore the full moon quickly. Some people hit fruit trees with pestles, believing the act would increase fruit yields. In Surat Thani province, participants in the Full Moon party at Koh Pha-ngan Island enjoyed both the party and the Super Blue Blood Moon. Many Thai and foreign tourists took speedboats from Koh Samui Island to Haad Rin beach on Koh Pha-ngan, the venue of the party. (TNA)
