Moon set for bilateral talks with global leaders during PyeongChang Olympics

SEOUL, Feb. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in is set to hold bilateral meetings with more than a dozen global leaders who will visit the country during the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games this month, the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae said Friday. Moon will hold the first bilateral summit with the president of Estonia on Tuesday, followed by bilateral talks with the governor general of Canada and the president of Lithuania on Wednesday, according to Cheong Wa Dae spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom. On Thursday, he will hold bilateral summit meetings with the presidents of Switzerland, Germany and Poland before being joined by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence for dinner at Cheong Wa Dae. The South Korean president will travel to the eastern city of Gangneung on Friday to hold a lunch meeting with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, according to Kim. He will move to PyeongChang later in the day for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games. There he will also hold bilateral summits with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the prime minister of the Netherlands, according to the Cheong Wa Dae spokesman. Moon is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with the president of Latvia, the Norwegian prime minister and the president of Slovenia in the week following the start of the Winter Olympics. The PyeongChang Olympic Games are scheduled to end Feb. 25. They will be followed by the Paralympic Games slated to be held from March 9-18. bdk@yna.co.kr (END)
