Timofei Lapshin finishes 16th in 10km men's biathlon sprint

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea, Feb. 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Timofei Lapshin finished 16th in the men's biathlon sprint finals Sunday at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. The naturalized Korean clocked a time of 24 minutes, 22.6 seconds in the 10km sprint competition at Alpensia Biathlon Centre in PyeongChang, Gangwon Province, some 182 kilometers east of Seoul. He missed one shot standing. Arnd Peiffer of Germany won gold, coming in at 23 minutes, 38.8 seconds, followed by Michal Krcmar of Czech Republic and Italy's Dominik Winisch, who won silver and bronze, respectively. Lapshin, who competed for Russia from 2008 to 2016, is the only male biathlete representing South Korea at the PyeongChang Olympics. Before he wore the South Korean national team uniform, Lapshin won silver in the men's relay event at the 2009 Biathlon Junior World Championships and won gold medals at the International Biathlon Union World Cups. odissy@yna.co.kr (END)
