Thailand to Launch Tourist Airports Program

NAN, Feb 12 (TNA) -- The Department of Airports on Sunday launches the first Tourist Airports tourism campaign in Nan province to stimulate grass roots tourism. Darun Saengchai, the Director-General of the Department of Airports along with Wiboon Waewbandit, the deputy governor of Nan province officially launched the 'Fly, Cycle @Nan' campaign at Nan Nakhon Airport as the pilot project for the Tourist Airports program. As part of try campaign, participants will be given a bicycle assembly and maintenance demonstration followed by a bicycle tour of local tourist attractions such as village weaving industry, traditional Lanna handicrafts and joining community activities. The 'Fly, Cycle@Nan' campaign is a joint collaboration between the Thailand Walking and Cycling Institute Foundation and local agencies to stimulate tourism in the province. Also, local communities are being prepped to setup a 'tourist bicycle service centre' within Nan Nakhon Airport compound with an aim to promote eco-tourism which will help spread tourist income to local communities.
