Poppy plantations destroyed in Tak

TAK, Feb 12 (TNA) - Officials destroyed an opium poppy plantation on the hill in a remote area of Tak province, bordering Myanmar. Combined forces of police, soldiers and forest officials patrolled on foot deep into the forest near Thai-Myanmar border for several hours since last night until they found opium poppy cultivation on several rais of land on the hill. They destroyed the poppy field and also arrest a foreign man for having a carcass of protected wildlife in his possession. His homemade gun and ammunition were also seized. A local security official said this year, opium cultivation remains a severe problem. It is shocking that foreign hunters are hired to hunt wildlife for those illegally grow the plant for producing illegal drug. All officials have to work harder to destroy prevailing hidden poppy plantations, he said. (TNA)
