World Bank To Assist Malaysia In Education Reform Agenda

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13 (Bernama) – The World Bank is ready to assist Malaysia to continue its education reform agenda in order to continue its effort to achieve the high-income nation status. World Bank Group Global Knowledge and Research Hub in Malaysia country manager Faris Hadad-Zervos said Malaysia was aware of the need to improve education outcomes and eliminate any constraints on continuing productivity growth. “The knowledge and research aspect is a valuable component of the bank’s work globally in helping some of these countries achieve their development goals and aspirations. “Our value is our ability to work at the nexus of global and local issues, complementing policy work with operational responses and financing, and engaging with both the public and private sectors,” he said in his speech at the launch of the report on ‘Improving Education Sector Performance: Lessons from a Education Delivery Unit Approach (PADU)’ here Tuesday by the deputy director-general of education Datuk Sulaiman Wak. Zervos said Malaysia’s efforts to tackle education challenges, particularly through the establishment of a delivery unit that tracked results, could help other countries seeking to improve implementation in the sector. The report highlights the role of the PADU under the Education Ministry in improving education outcomes, a key government priority. The report examines how PADU facilitated programme implementation and delivery of results through the Literacy and Numeracy Screening (LINUS) programme. Unlike other interventions, the LINUS task force comprised several divisions working closely with agencies across government to provide an effective framework for coordination, tracking, monitoring and reporting. -- BERNAMA
