Poisonous jelly fish warned in Songkhla
SONGKHLA, Feb 20 (TNA) – The Songkhla Provincial Health Office warns swimmers to beware of poisonous jellyfish after 23 jellyfish sting cases were reported over the weekend.
Head of the provincial health office, Uthitsak Hiriratthanakul, said Surveillance and Rapid Response Team (SRRT) has checked the areas where there are reports of swimmers stung by poisonous jelly fish from Feb 17-19.
Twenty three persons were injured by the jellyfish. One of them had chest pain and difficult breathing. However, all received first aid and were released from hospital.
He advised those, who have contact with venomous tentacles, to rinse vinegar, not fresh water on the affected area for 30 seconds, not to rub the skin and seek medical treatment.
The provincial health office said according to the examination of jelly sting cases in Songkhla by experts form Ramathibodi Poison Center, the Blue Bottle jellyfish is likely to cause such wounds and sysmptoms. More investigation will be conducted on this type of jelly fish.
Meanwhile, local authorities posted the placards with warning and advisory for treatment of jelly sting along the Chalathat beach in the Songkhla municipality. (TNA)
