Call centre gang arrested in Malaysia, Thais victims rescued

BANGKOK, Feb 20 (TNA) – Thai tourist police and Malaysian economic crime suppression police busted a call centre gang in Kuala Lumpur, rescuing 11 Thai nationals, forced into the extortion phone scam. In a joint cooperation, the police of the two countries raided a four-storey commercial building, used as the operation base of the call centre gang, run by Taiwanese people. The police found phones, computers, lists of victims and conversation scripts for many situations to deceive victims to make financial transactions. Five Taiwanese people including the gang leader were arrest. Eleven Thais, detained inside the building to make the phone calls to dupe Thai victims were rescued. The police found two Thai nationals, who have arrest warrants for extortion and detaining other people. Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakphan, deputy commissioner of the Tourism Police said the gang moved to this building two month ago and has about 100 million of money in circulation. This is the second arrest of the call centre gang in Malaysia in one month. (TNA)
