Foreign tourist fell to death at Samui waterfall

SURAT THANI, Feb 23 (TNA) --- A Czech man fell to death at the Bang Koon Sri waterfall on the Samui island in Surat Thani province. The 32-year-old Czech was among a group of eight compatriots who toured the southern island on rented motorcycles. A friend said they arrived in Thailand on Feb 5 and rented five motorcycles on Samui Island. They stopped over at the Bang Koon Sri waterfall. The man walked to the cliff of the waterfall for a selfie. While he was turning to find a good view, he slipped and fell about 30 metres to the adjacent tier of the waterfall. Friends took five minutes to reach the man and found he already stopped breathing. Rescue workers took about three hours to lift the body from the waterfall. Smitsak Suttara, tourist assistance chief of Surat Thani, said the scene was a catchment area where there were signs and ropes to prohibit tourists’ entry. The incident was not the first at the waterfall. Two tourists had been killed and three others injured there due to defiance among tourists, he said. (TNA)
