ASEAN library opens at kindergarten in Phatthalung

PHATTHALUNG, Feb 23 (TNA) -- Busara Kanchanalai, deputy director-general of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, opened an ASEAN library at Pa Bon Kindergarten in Pa Bon district to promote the ASEAN Community and public education. The kindergarten is the 34th school where an ASEAN library was set up. The Department of ASEAN Affairs was implementing the ASEAN library project to let all parties participate in the ASEAN Community, raise awareness of the ASEAN Community among the young and support public education on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Ms Busara said. The project started in 2014 and ASEAN libraries have been opened in 30 schools. In fiscal 2017, the Department of ASEAN Affairs opened ASEAN libraries at primary and secondary schools in 14 provinces namely Lamphun, Lampang, Phrae, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Phichit, Kamphaeng Phet, Suphan Buri, Ayutthaya, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket, Rayong and Chanthaburi. The schools were models for other schools to open similar libraries, Ms Busara said. (TNA)
