Cabinet retreat in Phetchaburi to address illegal fishery
BANGKOK, Feb 27 (TNA) – The cabinet retreat will be held in the seaside province of Phetchaburi next Tuesday to address illegal fishery and migrant labour issues.
Government Spokesperson Lt-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that the prime minister ordered the cabinet retreat to be held in Samut Samut Sakhon and Phetchaburi on March 5-6.
Although, Thailand moved up from Tier 3 to the Tier 2 “Watch List”of the US Trafficking in Persons report in 2016, the government is not satisfied and wants to solve illegal labour problems to provide protection and welfare to migrant labourers.
Lt-General Sansern said that the migrant worker related bills are being revised by the Office of the Council of State to suit the changing the situation.
The cabinet decided to conclude the consideration of the Migrant Worker Emergency Decree at the upcoming cabinet retreat in Phetchaburi.
Gen Prayut is concerned about the distortion of the information that the new law will benefit migrant workers and may snatch jobs from Thais. The government spokesman confirmed that under the new law Thai workers’ rights and welfare are still protected. (TNA)
