Malaysia To Continue Supporting ASEM Process

PUTRAJAYA, March 1 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has pledged to continue supporting the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) process, and is committed to working closely with all member partners in advancing Asia-Europe relations to greater heights. Wisma Putra in a statement released in conjunction with the 22nd anniversary of ASEM on March 1 said as founding member, Malaysia also valued the ASEM process as a way forward to bridge different cultures and social norms. It also said ASEM had not only forged closer cooperation and enhanced understanding between Asia and Europe, but also provided its members with the platform to engage in dialogues and discussions on political, economic and international issues based on the principles of equal partnership, mutual respect and shared benefits among its diverse members. "Malaysia has actively participated and contributed to ASEM’s activities, and will continue to do so as we seek to build a shared vision and future for our two continents,” it added. Wisma Putra said Malaysia believed the upcoming 12th ASEM Summit in Brussels, Belgium would be an even more important platform for leaders from both regions to deliberate and address important global challenges, as well as create mutually beneficial linkages through multilateralism. -- BERNAMA
