Thailand tells UN that human rights are on its national agenda

SWITZERLAND, March 2 (TNA) – Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai told the 37th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva that Thailand treated human rights issues as national agenda and implemented many measures to ensure the rights. He said that the Thai government was promoting human rights along with its efforts to introduce Sufficiency Economy Philosophy of His Majesty King Bhumibol and to achieve Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Citing examples of the human rights mission, he mentioned the government’s project on welfare cards for the poor, new laws on human trafficking suppression and labour protection, and planned measures to tackle forced labour and promote equal access to education. Mr Don also referred to efforts to conduct strategic environmental assessment on large-scaled projects, end stateless conditions of people and protect human rights activists. He noted that the digital era facilitated violations to human rights and social media users must adhere to proper use of media to help protect human rights. (END)
