Many hotspots detected in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI, March 2 (TNA) -- Hotspots were detected in many districts of Chiang Mai province and its governor ordered strict legal action on violators of a 51-day burning ban. Chiang Mai governor Pawin Chamniprasat instructed chiefs of all districts to monitor hotspots and seriously enforced the 51-day burning ban to prevent smoke haze in the northern province. The ban on outdoor burning continues until April 20. Violators of the ban will be liable to a fine of 200,000-2,000,000 baht and/or 4-20 years in jail. Informants giving clues for the arrest of violators will be rewarded 5,000 baht each. There were hotspots in Chomthong, Mae Chaem, Hod, Om Koi, San Patong, Mae On and Doi Tao districts of Chiang Mai. The level of particulate matter 10 micrometers or less in diameter stood at 118 microgram per cubic meter of air in Chiang Mai. Safe levels are within 120 micrograms. (END)
