PM meets migrant labourers in Samut Sakhon

SAMUT SAKHON, March 5 (TNA) – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha led cabinet members to visit the Labour Rights Promotion Network (LPN) in Samut Sakhon ahead of the Cabinet retreat in Phetchaburi tomorrow. Meeting the NGO staff and volunteers on Monday, he told them that NGO should help create understanding with migrant workers that to solve human trafficking and illegal labour, three sides - government officials, employers, and labourers must together put effort to address the problems. NGO should not only attack the government’s flaws but should support the government as NGO plays a vital role to create understanding with the international community. Gen Prayut confirmed that the government takes the fight against human trafficking. Any government officials, found to be involved in human trafficking will face stern punishment. HE said the government needs to issue related law, so the international community sees Thailand’s intention to tackle the problem. He also met a migrant worker, who became handicapped from working in a fishing boat, teachers of migrant workers’ children, and LPN director. He ordered officials to provide welfare benefits to the workers and told teachers to instill a sense of morality, good conscience and love for the country in order to foster peaceful society without conflicts.
