Hua Hin declares temporary rabies outbreak zone
PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, March 12 (TNA) - Hua Hin district of Prachuap Khiri Khan has been declared the temporary rabies outbreak zone for 30 days after two dead dogs tested positive for rabies.
Saroj Chanlad, chief of the animal health division, the livestock office in Prachuap Khiri Khan said carcasses of two dogs from Hua Hin district and Pran Buri district tested positive for rabies.
In Hua Hin, the areas in five-kilometre radius of Moo 14, Hin Lek Fai sub-district, connecting the Hua Hin provincial seat municipality was declared rabies outbreak zone.
In Pran Buri district, all sub-districts are under close surveillance. Mr Saroj said he submitted a letter, suggesting the deputy provincial governor to issue an order for all local administrative authorities in the district to procure adequate anti-rabies vaccines. Livestock officials speed vaccination for stray dogs and pet dogs.
Jeerawat Prammanee, Hua Hin Municipal Clerk said the authorities step up rabies vaccinations in the areas, connecting Hin Lek Fai sub-district, where the disease was reported. Pet owners are warned that leaving their pets as stray dogs in public places is punishable by municipal law.
Meanwhile, about 300 dogs from the Hua Hin dog shelter will be transported to another shelter in Buriram. After the removal, the place will be used for quarantine of stray dogs for observations of their symptoms. (TNA)
