Health ministry, livestock department, Kasetsart University fight against rabies

BANGKOK, March 13 (TNA) -- The Public Health Ministry, the Department of Livestock Development, and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Kasetsart University will discuss joint efforts to cope with rabies. Dr Suwannachai Watanayingcharoenchai, director-general of the Department of Disease Control, said representatives of the three parties would meet on March 14 to discuss campaigns to control rabies and they would include public education on the disease. He also said that local administration organisations already allocated 310 million baht for rabies control as the disease was spreading in many areas. Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn said that many organisations including the Interior Ministry, the Department of Livestock Development and the Public Health Ministry were encouraging owners of dogs and cats to have their pets vaccinated to effectively control rabies. Rabies recently killed three people in Songkha, Surin and Trang provinces. (TNA)
