Bangkok accelerates rabies vaccination

BANGKOK, March 13 (TNA) – Authorities have stepped up vaccination for dogs and cats in Bangkok’s 50 districts after the capital along with other 21 provinces were declared temporary rabies outbreak zones for 30 days. Health officials from Huai Khwang district have been deployed to vaccinate dogs and cats in the Rong Poon community upon the request of the community leader. The community has about 3,000 residents and about 200 pets as well as an unknown number of stray dogs and cats, so the leader are worried about possible outbreak of the rabies. To contain the spread of rabies, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has prepared 250,000 doses of vaccines for inoculating dogs and cats each year. Officials will be deployed to provide vaccination service at houses of pet owners from March 5-16. (TNA)
