Public education is key to stop tourists from climbing at archaeological sites
BANGKOK, March 13 (TNA) -- An academic has recommended authorities educate local people and tourists on Buddhist arts to stop people from inappropriately climbing at ancient sites for photographs.
Amara Srisookchart, the Fine Arts Department’s specialist on archeology and museums, told the Thai News Agency that many Thai and foreign tourists recently climbed Buddha images to pose for photos at historical parks and ancient sites including the Ayutthaya Historical Park.
A key solution was for all concerned parties to seriously educate people and tourists on Buddhist arts and also respected Buddhism, she said. The campaigns should focus on Thai people who could set good examples for visitors, she said.
Ms Amara added Thailand should raise the issue in the Buddhist Heritage International seminar that would gather international archeologists and relevant academics. (TNA)
