NCPO concerned over natural calamities
BANGKOK, March 19 (TNA) -- The Secretary-General of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) voiced his concerns on the impact of storms to the public and ordered the Peace and Order Maintaining Command (POMC) to mobilise immediate assistance to affected areas.
Col Srichan Nga-Thong, the deputy spokeswoman for the NCPO announced that supreme commander of the Royal Thai Army Gen Chalermchai Sitthisat who is also the Secretary General of the NCPO, convened a NCPO committee meeting today and voiced his concern for public safety after a number of heavy storms hit the country in February.
Gen Chalermchai wanted preparations to be made for possible storms that has been forecasted for this week in particular in the northeastern, north and central plains region.
As such Gen Chalermchai ordered the POMC to coordinate with provincial authorities so that search and rescue efforts as well as aid support can be mobilised as quickly as possible.
Col Srichan revealed that the POMC was currently helping 1,915 storm victims in 13 provinces repair homes damages by recent storms. A warning has also been issued to some territories or prepare for thunder storms and possible hail and strong gales.
Finally, Gen Chalermchai commented on the official ongoing effort to tackle corruption and graft.
The secretary-general stated that at present all government departments has been ordered to make public all details related to graft probes which will go a long way in allaying general concerns and bolster public trust. (TNA)
