Road safety master plan discussed
BANGKOK, March 23 (TNA) -- Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon chaired a meeting of the national road safety committee to discuss a road safety master plan and said the registration of double-decker buses stopped in 2015.
Gen Prawit said the committee also addressed safety measures for the upcoming Songkran holidays and that general people should follow traffic rules including speed limits, no drunk driving and the use of safety belts in order to support the effectiveness of the road safety measures.
“Drunk drivers will have their vehicles impounded as before. Passengers are allowed to sit on the trays of pickup trucks but they must not sit on the edges of the trays. The trucks must run slowly,” Gen Prawit said.
In response to recent accidents involving double-decker buses, Gen Prawit said the new registration of double-decker buses stopped in 2015 and existing ones must be well maintained to ensure safety.
He added that the national road safety committee considered the establishment of an academic institution on road safety and that the road safety master plan for implementation until 2020 would be proposed to the cabinet for approval soon. (TNA)
