2.3 million of tourists from International and regional regions to visit Laos by 2010
(KPL) The government of Laos has recently set a goal to receive 2.3 million of tourists from international and regional regions to visit Laos by 2010.
Today the government and all concern authorities are working harder to promote the tourism in the country by organizing a number of tourism activities in order attract tourists to Laos on the occasion of 450th anniversary of Vientiane and the 25th SAE Games which will be hosted by Laos in 2009.
The tourism industry in Laos has constantly expanded, in which the foreign tourists has arrived Laos about 1,623,943 in 2007, increased 34% compared to the same period in 2006 and generated about US$ 233 million to the country.
In Vientiane by 2007 alone, the Vientiane Capital has welcomed about 869,642 of foreign tourists while in 2006 the Vientiane Capital has received only 729,272 of foreign tourists.
In order to welcome the tourists who will come to visit Laos in the future, the government has so far surveyed and inventoried 985 of tourist sites, 257 of which are cultural tourist sites, 570 of eco-tourism sites and 162 of historical tourist sites.
