Malaysia Halal Excellence Awards Honour Eight Recipients

KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian halal industry has honoured four companies, a government agency, a research body, a broadcasting corporation, and an individual with the 2018 Halal Excellence Awards for their outstanding achievements in the global halal industry. Leading the list, Brahim's Holdings Bhd was presented with the Halal Excellence Award in recognition of its exceptional contributions and commitment to the overall halal industry development. The Halal Brand Award was handed to McDonalds Malaysia in honour of its high-profile brand and trademark, as well as its creative excellence and consistency in promoting international acceptance and upholding the halal integrity. The awards organised by the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) were presented by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan at an appreciation dinner here tonight in conjunction with the World Halal Week 2018 (WHW 2018). Former Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and HDC Chief Executive Officer Jamil Bidin were present. The Talent Development Award was given to the Human Resource Development Fund in acknowledgement of its outstanding contributions to upholding human capital development in the halal economy. The Halal Product Research Institute received the Halal Science and Research Award for its innovating ideas, including efforts and commitment in pioneering halal research and development through science and technology. Meanwhile, Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd and Mamee Double-Decker (M) Sdn Bhd were named successful international halal company and successful Malaysian halal company, respectively. Japan’s broadcaster NHK was given the Halal Awareness Initiative Award for raising consumer awareness and encouraging organisations and global companies to venture into halal businesses. The 2018 Halal Excellence Award also honoured the late Thai political scientist Dr Surin Abdul Halim Ismail Pitsuwan with a special award in recognition of his huge impact in the development of the halal industry. Themed “Building for the Future”, the WHW 2018 is led by HDC, as the central agency under the Prime Minister’s Department and organised in collaboration with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia. The WHW 2018 comprises three major components: a two-day World Halal Conference 2018 (WHC 2018), organised by HDC which started today; the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) (April 4-7), organised by MATRADE, and the Malaysia International Halal Assembly (MyHA) (March 26-April 3), organised by JAKIM. -- BERNAMA
