Thai PM meets Cambdian PM before Mekong summit

BANGKOK, April 5 (TNA) -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha met his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen before attending the 3rd summit of the Mekong River Commission in Siem Reap. Deputy government spokesman Werachon Sukondhapatipak said both prime ministers shared their pleasure for their repeated meeting after the previous one during the 2nd Lancang-Mekong Cooperation meeting in Phnom Penh. Both prime ministers also shared their satisfaction with presently good bilateral ties. Gen Prayut expressed gratitude for warm reception and extended his best wishes to Prime Minister Hun Sen for the latter’s birthday on April 4. Both prime ministers agreed to expand cooperation on trade and investment. More permanent border crossings and a revived Thai-Cambodian railway would be among the efforts for the cooperation. The Cambodian prime minister said he saw continuous increases in the value of bilateral trade and traffic of Thai and Cambodian people visiting each other’s country. On the occasion, Gen Prayut asked Cambodia to support the master plan for the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) and the Bangkok Declaration from the 8th ACMECS summit that Thailand will host this year.
