Chiang Mai police use drones against criminals

CHIANG MAI, April 5 (TNA) -- Police of the Mae Rim station in Chiang Mai province have applied a drone to support the arrest of gamblers and control wildfire among other benefits. Pol Lt Col Manaschai Inthuean, deputy investigative chief at the Mae Rim station, used a drone to successfully locate gambling dens and follow escaping gamblers. The device was also used to survey local forests to locate wildfire and detect illegal logging. He planned to use the drone to help traffic management during the Songkran festival. Pol Lt Col Manaschai spent his own money to buy the drone and apply it to support the services of his police station. The drone has its maximal altitude of 500 meters and flight range of seven kilometers. It was programmed not to enter air security zones, fly too high or hit blockages. (TNA)
