Heroin seized at Bangkok Port
BANGKOK, April 9 (TNA) -- The Customs Department said that they have seized 28 kg of heroin worth more than 100 million baht concealed in a consignment of latex pillows destined for Hong Kong.
The Customs Department Director General Kulit Sombatsiri told reporters in a press conference that 80 packs of heroin weighing approximately 350 grams each was seized by customs officials.
The three suspects-one Thai and two Hong Kong natives were arrested. Mr Kulit confirmed that the Narcotics Suppression Bureau of the Royal Thai Police has been notified and will be handling the case.
Mr Kulit stated that on April 7 customs officials carried out a routine inspection of a container at Bangkok Port in Khlong Toei district belonging to Y&S Solution Trading Co Ltd which contained a consignment of latex pillows bound for Hong Kong.
An X-Ray scan discovered something hidden in the pollows at the deep end of the container and the container was held for a more thorough examination. Officials later discovered the heroin which was stuffed two packs into each pillow. In all, 80 packs were found weighing a total of 28 kg and estimated to be worth more than 100 million baht.
Customs officials also apprehended the owner of the company and two of its employees who were then handed over to police investigators to be processed.
A background check on the company revealed that it was registered on January 30 of this year and had earlier sent a consignment of similar latex pillows to Hong Kong in March. Rechecking the earlier X-Ray scans on the earlier consignment however revealed nothing out of the ordinary. (TNA)
