Samsung starts global sales of new NVMe SSDs

SEOUL, April 23 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co. said Tuesday it started global sales of its new non-volatile memory express (NVMe) solid-state drives (SSDs), which come with improved speed for faster data processing. The South Korean tech giant said its NVMe SSD 970 PRO and EVO series have gone on sale in some 50 countries, including South Korea, the United States, China, and Germany. The products are updates of from the 960 PRO and EVO series released in September 2016. Samsung said the new SSDs will come with 30 percent faster writing and reading speed, meeting the latest market demand. The new products' sequential read and write speed stands at 3,500MB per second and 2,700MB per second, respectively. The Total bytes Written (TBW), a gauge for SSD's lifespan, reach up to 1,200 TBW for the 1-TB edition of 970 PRO and 2-TB model of 970 EVO, the company claimed. The figures translate into saving and deleting 650GB of data everyday for five years. "Going beyond the 960 series, which were recognized as the best performing NVMe SSD, Samsung is able to expand its presence in the NVMe SSD market through the 970 PRO and 970 EVO series," the company said. "The new 970 series will set new standards for every aspect of NVMe SSDs in terms of best performance, distinctive trustworthiness, and convenient design," Samsung added. The 970 PRO will come with 512GB and 1TB capacities, with the 970 EVO also being released in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB models.
