S Korea increases Thai worker quota

BANGKOK, April 26 (TNA) – South Korea increases Thai worker quota from 5,000 to 7,000 people this year, said Labour Minister Pol Gen Adul Sangsingkeo. The Thai labour minister and South Korean Consul General Lim Mankyu witnessed the reporting of Thai workers, who passed Korean language test at Zeer Rangsit on Wednesday. More than 6,000 Thai workers who passed the language proficiency test are now qualified for the recruitment by South Korean employers. About 1,700 workers will be offered jobs during the selection process from April 30 to May 10. The next round of recruitment will be done in June for additional 1,788 workers. They will receive a monthly salary of about 48,000 – 51,000 baht under the four –year contract. It is expected that these workers will send money of about 2.5 billion baht per year back to Thailand. The labour minister said currently, there are about 400,000 Thai workers overseas. The quota for Thai workers to South Korea is increased from 5,000 to 7,000 people this year due to their skills and work efficiency. Despite the report of 50,000 illegal Thai workers in South Korea, it didn’t impact the employment quota of Thai legal workers, the minister said while urging workers to go to work overseas legally. If they are arrested, they will be banned from travelling into that country. (TNA)
