Osaka Gas to buy liquefied natural gas from Sakhalin-2+

OSAKA, March 4 Kyodo - Osaka Gas Co. said Wednesday it has signed an agreement with Sakhalin Energy Investment Co., the operator of the Sakhalin-2 natural gas development project, to purchase liquefied natural gas from the Russian offshore project.

Under the 23-year contract starting in fiscal 2008, Sakhalin Energy will
provide Osaka Gas with LNG from fiscal 2009. Starting in fiscal 2011, Osaka Gas
will import around 200,000 tons a year.
Osaka Gas will buy LNG from Russia for the first time, according to the
company. So far, Osaka Gas has concluded long-term LNG purchase agreements with
six other countries, including Indonesia and Oman.
About two-thirds of all LNG produced in the Sakhalin-2 project is expected to
reach Japan, according to Sakhalin Energy. Japanese trading houses Mitsui & Co.
and Mitsubishi Corp. are taking part in the natural gas development project
offshore Sakhalin Island, north of Japan.
