Ubon Ratchathani airport reopens after electrical system fixed
UBON RATCHATHANI, May 2 (TNA) -- Ubon Ratchathani airport reopened this morning after a temporary closure from yesterday evening due to an electrical problem.
A short circuit occurred to a lighting system covering the aircraft parking areas and runway of the airport and forced the stoppage of four incoming flights from Bangkok and three outgoing flights to the capital from 6pm yesterday. Many passengers were stranded.
Local technicians and electrical engineers as well as their counterparts from Buri Ram and Roi Et provinces were deployed to fix underground electricity wirings and the airport was reopened this morning.
A Thai Smile flight from Bangkok was the first flight to arrive at Ubon Ratchathani airport at 7.55am after the temporary closure. Aircraft of Thai Smile, AirAsia and Nok Air already transported stranded passengers there.
Pol Lt Col Pramote Chuenta, deputy chief of the Muang Ubon Ratchathani police station, was informed that more electrical engineers would arrive from Bangkok to investigate the problem. (TNA)
